The hot NASCAR rumor is that Tony Stewart may have put some knuckles to the chin of Kurt Busch after Kurt allegedly called Smoke fat. Man, what would you give for that YouTube vid?
Hey, maybe Kurt meant phat! Afterall, I was doing some research - wading through NASCAR’s Loop Data stats for the last six Daytona Cup Series points races - into the early hours of this morning. What I found was, if you have to pick a winner and you put any stock in statistics, Tony Stewart is your man this Sunday. Check this excerpt from my article for Fantasyinsideronline.com.
Before you check that #48 box you should look at this though. Tony Stewart leads seven Loop Data categories at Daytona. His Ave. Start of 5.2 is almost 3 places better than the next best.
Now for the big finish. Stewart has led 36.7% of all laps and a total of 399 laps in the Loop Era. Second were Kurt Busch’s 13% for 141 laps, remember? Stewart’s overall points were a category best 784 – 42 more than Johnson’s – and his driver rating is 109.00 compared to JJ’s 98.1.
No other driver was close to Stewart so maybe Kurt was being complimentary if, you know, he actually did use the “F - word” on Tony.
An AP story on Foxsports.com this morning has a funny quote about the incident from Dale Earnhardt Jr .
“Speedweeks, you know, they needed a shot in the arm and what happened in practice gave it that.
“I think they are going to go back to letting us run over each other, so just get ready. I’m going to walk around with my dukes up all day long. Be ready, I’m telling you, you got to watch both hands.”
Be ready NASCAR fans, round one is about to start. Watch the left - these guys are real good going left.
