Why Tony Stewart is Not Leaving Joe Gibbs Racing
by Steve Wronkowicz
I am co-host of the syndicated radio show: ON PIT ROW. Over ten years on the air and three on the net; see what can happen when I don't let the facts get in the way of my opinions.
April 10, 2008 9:00 pm UTC 8 CommentsDon’t expect Tony Stewart to jump ship from JGR to the new fourth car at Richard Childress Racing.
There has been much speculation as to who may be fitted for the seat in the #33 General Mills ride in 2009. I’m here to tell you I have it on good authority that Smoke is staying put in the Home Depot Toyota.
What is this good authority, you ask? None other than ON PIT ROW analyst Fox Sports Jeff Hammond. Jeff talked about the need for change on the new car before the season moves along too much further. He also weighed in on the Petty Enterprises situation, but the big announcement about Stewart staying at Gibbs wasn’t really a statement at all.
You see Jeff let us in on a resort community in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia called Sheridan Ridge Private Reserve. The resort is in close proximity to four NASCAR tracks; Bristol, Richmond, Martinsville and Lowe’s thus giving easy access to fans and those in the motorsports industry. The amenity package includes a grand lodge and spa, recreational center, adventure sports outfitter, equestrian center, sports bar and motorsports exhibits.
So what does all that have to do with Smoke staying at JGR? It just so happens that SPEED’s Hammond is the Chairman of Sheridan Ridge Advisory Board. Chairman of a board that happens to include JGR driver Denny Hamlin, JGR crew chief Greg Zippadelli, Virginia native Elliott Sadler and JGR driver Tony Stewart. All the members of the advisory board will have property at the resort; thus cementing the relationships between Joe Gibbs Racing drivers and crew members.
The business dealings of these NASCAR personalities in relationship with the resort at Sheridan Ridge makes me believe that Tony will not make a move away from a group of individuals that he obviously feels very comfortable working with and being in business with.
The Coach may want to pick up one of those resort properties–it may help solidify the rest of his investment.

NASCAR–Be Careful What You Ask For
by Steve Wronkowicz
I am co-host of the syndicated radio show: ON PIT ROW. Over ten years on the air and three on the net; see what can happen when I don't let the facts get in the way of my opinions.
March 9, 2008 11:14 pm UTC 8 CommentsNASCAR officials, during the off season, told their drivers to show more personality. “Be more controversial,” NASCAR told its drivers.
Now everyone from Tony Stewart to Elliott Sadler has an opinion about something, and isn’t afraid to voice it. Stewart has been a huge critic of Goodyear in 2008 and has ripped the tire manufacturer to anyone who would listen.
“There isn’t anybody, I don’t think, who is happy with the tires we have got,” Stewart said. “After 10 years in the Cup Series, you learn to be highly disappointed with everything that Goodyear does.”
“I expect it to be wacky this week, too. I hate to say it, but the best thing that Goodyear does is make that gold trophy at the end of the year.”
“That is one thing that they always do right. Everything from that moment on until the end of the year, it’s a crap shoot. You never know what you’re going to get when you get here.
“This weekend is proof of it. I don’t think you will hear a driver here who is happy with the tires we got this weekend.”
Elliott Sadler took a few pot shots at fellow driver Carl Edwards saying that Edwards and his car owner Jack Roush were insulting his and other driver’s intelligence by trying to pass off the loose oil cooler bolt as a natural vibration occurrence.
“I think that it insults my intelligence as a race car driver when you try and tell me that you accidentally left the oil tank lid off. If you go to any owner, any engineer, any driver any crew chief and ask them is that an advantage, ‘heck yeah it’s an advantage’. I’ve been doing that half of my career. When driving the 21 and 38 car, we pulled the shifter boot off and the oil tank lid off until NASCAR started to tech it. It’s 100 lbs of down force.”
So this week the BUZZ ON PIT ROW is:
Will NASCAR regret its decision to let drivers, owners and employees speak their minds?

Dodges dominate Daytona
by Steve Wronkowicz
I am co-host of the syndicated radio show: ON PIT ROW. Over ten years on the air and three on the net; see what can happen when I don't let the facts get in the way of my opinions.
February 18, 2008 9:35 pm UTC 3 CommentsAfter lackluster efforts testing, qualifying and practicing; where did all the Dodges come from?
That is THE BUZZ this week ON PIT ROW. For most of Speed Weeks at Daytona everyone was focusing on the Chevy super teams. Hendrick Motorsports, Richard Childress Racing and DEI. Then testing successes by the Toyota teams shifted the focus to their new found prowess and much debate ensued.
Not much ink or bandwidth was wasted on the Ford and Dodge teams, other than the Robby Gordon story. So little credit was given to the Dodge teams that the biggest Dodge story was Kurt Busch’s run in with Tony Stewart’s fist.
When all was said and done and the checkers flew on the 50th Daytona 500, the Dodge Boys had captured the majority of top ten spots. Along with Ryan Newman’s win and Kurt’s second, Reed Sorenson, Elliott Sadler, Kasey Kahne and Robby all finished in the top eight, Only the Toyotas of Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch along with Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Chevy and Greg Biffle’s Ford made the top ten.
It is no wonder that Chrysler Corporation inked the Ganassi and Penske to new multi-year contracts to stay with Mopar.
