MSA Super Modified driver Terry Gibson was killed last night in a turn one crash, on the third lap of the first heat race of the night at Toledo Speedway.

I was there, but I didn’t see the crash.  A friend that I was with did, and was concerned right away.  It was some time before word began to spread that Terry had passed.

There was a sense of reverence among the fans and employees at the track.  But also, the feeling that the racing would go on.  And it did, once the wreckage had been cleared.  Another night, in what can be a cruel sport.

God speed, Terry Gibson.

I’ll add my thoughts and prayers as well.

I saw a couple AP reports of the tragedy a few hours ago but as yet there is nothing posted on the ARCA site.

I am a personal friend of Terrys brother, Jeff Gibson and his wife Shannon. I wanted to say that it is heartfelt to see the racing community paying their respects to all of the Gibson family. Those words and acts of kindness mean so much. Those who know the Gibson family know racing is their lives.

Thank you for all your kind words, they will help carry the family through.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family. I’m so sorry.

Regardless of what part of the racing community you belong to; whether you’re a driver, crew member, promoter or media member, death at a race track strikes everyone hard., but none as hard as family. While it may lie deep in the back of peoples minds, it is never expected and always a shock.

Nothing but the best of thoughts go out to the entire Terry Gibson family
