When you trail in the game, and desperately need to score, you may pull guys who got you to where you are in the game in the first place. Presumably you started your best team to begin with. Now you pull your starter, hoping for a hot bat, to get you back in the game.
It works sometimes in baseball. But it’s a hail Mary play mostly. Desperate move more often than not.
Kevin Harvick and the RCR #29 team have had a great 2010 Sprint Cup season. Steady points leaders for most of it. Now they are rolling the dice.
Harvick has three wins, but needs more. He has been often loudly critical of the work of his pit crew despite the team’s general success. Richard Childress has been listening. Childress sent the #33 crew of Clint Bowyer, RCR’s most recent race winning team, in to finish the game and get the win. Or wins.
Mostly, I think teams that don’t change much, have the edge on those that do. But with just five innings/races left, Childress thought his starters needed a change.
Batter up.
