October 9, 2010 6:31 pm EDT No CommentsWhile the record book will show Kyle Busch tied Mark Martin for most Nationwide races in a career by taking the checkered flag in today’s Camping World.com 300 at Auto Club Speedway, the true winner was Danica Patrick showing she does indeed belong in NASCAR.
The same can’t be said of Kevin Harvick’s pit crew, which twice took him from first to fifth. It’s a safe bet to say there will be a HELP WANTED side in the front window of Kevin Harvick Racing come the morn.
Back to Danica. She started 14th, fell back a few paces, yet never went below 20th. Eventually she was down a lap, but maintained speed and eventually got the lucky dog. She came as high as 12th, and was still running well within the top 20 when James Buescher, who Danica had tapped on the previous lap, deliberately turned into her which caused a massive hit that also took out Ricky Carmichael. Still, even the hardcore Danica haters now must swallow their pride and admit the woman can drive.
On to tomorrow.
