I am an unabashed fan of the NASCAR Nationwide Series. In many ways, the NNWS holds more interest – and hope -for me than the Sprint Cup big leagues.

NASCAR is at Chicagoland Speedway this weekend, and the big story is the first race of the Chase to the Cup. I’ll be there for that and it will be a big story, worth all the hype, I guess.

But first, on Saturday (today) the Nationwide guys and gals will go at it. The personalities and talents are different. More interesting, to me at least. The striving these drivers do, to either get to the Big Show, or maybe get back to it, is compelling.

Joe Balash is the head honcho of the NNWS. We had a chance to talk to him again On Pit Row this week. Watch the interview. Joe is a race fan, and it comes across, I think, when he answers our questions. The interview is below.

A caution with 31 laps to go almost turned a laugher into a crier for Ricky Stenhouse Jr and his dominant Roush-Fenway Mustang. Stenhouse had led 200 miles of the race up to that point but got caught out when Brad Sweet spun.

Elliott Sadler had battled a loose handling car all day but pitted at the right time and the final adjustments hit the sweet spot. On the restart, E-Sad checked out. Stenhouse got the Lucky Dog for the restart and had passed everyone but Sadler, with eight laps to go, but looked like he’d come up short.

Then Kyle Busch, who also had battled an evil handling race car all race, was hit from behind by a (later) repentant Sam Hornish Jr. Busch slammed Brendan Gaughn bringing out the final caution, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr had one more shot.

On the green-white-check restart, Sadler (inside) and Stenhouse were front row, Justin Allgaier and Michael Annett were behind. Sadler got a big push from Allgaier and some separation at the start.  Allgaier battled with Stenhouse trying to get to Sadler. Stenhouse went high, then low, but couldn’t make it happen at the end.

Fantastic finish and the best car didn’t win. But they don’t always and that sometimes makes the best races. The NASCAR Nationwide Series is where the action is right now.

Exclusive Pictures of NASCAR Driver Elliott Sadler

Is there a driver more like-able than E-Sad? I have taken many photos of the racing Sadler brothers. I’ve sat through a bunch of interviews and they’ve been great guests of the On Pit Row radio show. They’re fun guys and better racers than credited. Not sure where Elliott will drive this year, but the Nationwide Series might have a new championship contender.  Hope you enjoy our NASCAR driver pictures feature on Elliott Sadler from 2010. Use what you need bloggers, just give proper credit please.
